Benjamin Bache

Benjamin Bache was the grandson of Benjamin Franklin. He became the leading Republican newspaper publisher in the United States. He established the General Advertiser in Philadelphia in 1790 and later the Aurora. Bache was unsparing in his criticism of George Washington, accusing him of nepotism, wasting public funds, coveting a monarchy and needlessly seeking war against France. He was arrested during the Alien and Sedition Acts controversy, but was released. Bache died during a yellow fever epidemic in 1798.
